Moving into the Boys Dorm

During a parents meeting to discuss the re-opening of school for candidate classes last October, parents requested that boys be accommodated within the compound at JJ Vocational Secondary School rather than nearby at the primary school.  This was in order to minimise movements and interactions with neighbours on the short walk to class each day.  Thus, additional solar lighting was installed and the boys moved into one of the large vocational workshop rooms, as a temporary measure.  Towards the end of 2020, funding enabled building work on the boys dormitory block to continue.  Two dormitory rooms, and rooms for the Warden were finished in January, and the boys moved in to their new dormitory last month (February 2021).

21.3 million Uganda Shillings (approximately £4300 or $6000) is needed to add to the funds “in hand” to complete the third room for the boys, an extension on the bathroom and also to provide a water tank to harvest water from the roof.

In case you would like to help with this, some giving options are provided here, through our partner Hand in Hand, a UK registered Charity.

The candidate classes started their third and final term of the academic year towards the end of January.  At the beginning of this month, “sub-candidate” classes (Primary Six, Senior Three and Senior Five) were permitted to begin operating again.  Other year groups will return to school in a “phased manner” between now and August, when the academic year is due to end.

At JJ we were thankful to see our sub-candidates back at school last week, and look forward to welcoming other year groups back before long.
